LONDON
ABOUT LONDON
Situated along both banks of the River Thames, London is a city where centuries of history mingle with modern-day grit and charm. Roman walls peek out near medieval churches, royal palaces stand beside lively markets, and grand boulevards deliver visitors to neighborhoods with vastly different vibes. From artsy Soho to hipster Shoreditch to posh Mayfair, London holds a tapestry of stories—of monarchs and poets, explorers and artists.
Today, the city sparkles with a playful mix of history and modern life, creating the perfect environment for curious worldschoolers. We may ride double-decker buses to leafy parks, sample scones with clotted cream, paddle down and cool off in an inner-city canal, and more, learning as we go about this complex city, made more beautiful by the cultures from across the globe that fill it with color and flavor.
CUSTOMIZED DETOUR
London is one of the world’s most layered cities, and a Deliberate Detour Custom Immersion is designed to peel back those layers at your group’s own pace and according to your own interests. Working with our local host and cultural insiders, we build an experience around what your group is most curious about, whether that’s the city’s medieval past, its thriving arts scene, its extraordinary culinary diversity, or its complex and fascinating colonial history.
A Custom London Immersion might include a private tour of the City of London with a historian who has spent decades uncovering its secrets, a printmaking workshop in a working East End studio, or a guided exploration of Borough Market followed by a hands-on cooking lesson with a local chef. No two itineraries are alike — because no two groups arrive with the same curiosity.

EDUCATION STYLE
What Are We Not? We are not a school. Our hubs do not replace traditional school. We do not incorporate reading, writing, or math, nor do we provide formal lessons in academic content.
What Are We?
- We provide opportunities to learn through experience, to make real what might only be available in books. Our activities tie directly to science, history, geography, physical education. language arts.
- We behave like summer camp. We play, explore, create, and laugh together, and frequently, an expert teaches us something fascinating about the place, its people, history, and culture.
- We support personal growth by challenging children to notice and embrace difference, collaborate, develop grit, communicate and listen attentively, practice patience, and build global perspectives that include curiosity, creativity, and respect.
- We offer some structure and some space for play. We believe that freedom to play and explore should be a part of every child’s day, and we also believe that adult-curated activities can have meaning and impact.
