Some of the best Custom Immersions start with one parent who picks up the phone and calls three families. If that sounds like you — or if you’d simply like to begin with one friend — there’s something in it for everyone who helps make a group happen.
Building something from the ground up takes real effort — identifying the right families, making the ask, keeping the momentum going. We think that deserves a real reward. Bring on enough outside participants and you can earn up to $900 off your own family’s fee. Depending on the vision for your tailored experience, that can equal more than one free spot.
BE A PARENT LIAISON
A Parent Liaison is a trusted community member, often already embedded in a worldschooling or homeschooling network, who takes the lead in organizing a Custom Immersion group. They’re the connective tissue between Deliberate Detour and the families they bring together: handling outreach within their own community, coordinating logistics on their end, and ensuring the group meets the minimum participant threshold.
This isn’t a sales role. It’s a natural extension of what many community-connected parents already do, recommend experiences they believe in and gather their people around something worth doing.
WHAT’S INVOLVED
- Confirm a minimum of 10 paying participants from your network
- If adults are joining children for a whole-family program, we count everyone toward this minimum. Adults must be fully participating with identical enrollment fees to children
- Serve as the primary point of contact between their group and Deliberate Detour during planning
- Participate in at least two planning calls with the Deliberate Detour team
- Represent the program honestly and in alignment with Deliberate Detour’s values
- Travel with the group for a life-changing experience!
HOW IT WORKS
Most Liaisons start with a couple of families in mind. That’s enough to begin. We keep the reward system simple.

We require 10 paying participants to run a program. If a Liaison does not reach that minimum threshold, no discounts for that or future Immersions are provided.
WANT HELP?
There are a few ways to reduce the burden of the role while still earning its privileges:
Families you bring on can help fill the group too and earn $50 off their own fee for bringing on one additional participant. Every outside participant they bring on counts toward your total.
You’re free to co-coordinate. The discounts in the ladder above can be split between families.
Deliberate Detour can help too. If you’ve brought on 8 participants three months prior to your start date, confirmed by deposit, we can help fill the rest of your spots. We apply a marketing fee for your group of $250 for this work. Confirmation of facilitation still applies: we require 10 participants six weeks prior to the start date.
LIAISON’S COMMON QUESTIONS
Q: How creative can my group get with our customization?
A: We begin with our current host cities and activities we already facilitate and go from there. However, our local coordinators have tons of ideas they can never fit into our scheduled Immersions for you to consider! We are not able to coordinate a program in a city where we do not yet have contacts, but we’re happy to hear all of your ideas and dreams for Cusco, Budapest, Oaxaca, and London. Let’s see what we can manifest together.
Q: What if I don’t want to tailor at all. I like what you do!
A: Totally fine! The only customized piece for you, then, will be the dates you hold that are exclusive to your group.
Q: What if I can’t find 10 paying customers?
A: Ask for help from those you have brought on! They’re hoping the program fills too. If you confirm at least 8 total participants three months before the program begins, we can help find additional participants. The group won’t be private and a marketing fee will apply. Programs are confirmed to run when we reach 10 participants at least six weeks prior to the start date.
Q: What’s the timeline for making my commitment?
A: Your desired dates need to be at least 6 months in the future for us to begin planning together. Confirmation of dates will depend upon the availability of the Deliberate Detour team and other local factors.
Q: I already have another family involved. Can we work together?
A: Yes. You would split the discount offered as reward for this work. Those discounts are not doubled when two people do the work.
Q: What’s the maximum number of participants for a Custom Immersion?
A: We accept 13 children for a drop-off program and 25 participants for whole-family programs.
Q: Why does the Liaison role only apply to Custom Immersions and not Signature Immersions that aren’t yet full?
A: Signature Immersions have already been designed and scheduled. Custom Immersions don’t exist yet; someone has to build them from scratch. That’s Liaison-level effort, worthy of free spots.
Q: Can families in my group also help fill it? Is there an incentive for them?
A: Absolutely. With all of our programs, a referring family whose name is mentioned in enrollment paperwork receives $50 off their final invoice, as does the family who enrolled because of them.
Q: Can I be a Parent Liaison if my family has done a program before?
A: Yes, and honestly, alumni make the most compelling Liaisons. Your Alumni Benefit and your Liaison discount can both apply, up to a combined maximum of $1,000 off your family’s fee.
Q: How do I track who referred whom?
A: Our enrollment form includes a field for this. An enrolling family enters the name of the family who referred them, and we’ll handle the rest at invoicing.
