Hungarian Village Immersion: Past to Present
$145 per person

What better way to learn about folk traditions and daily life than by interacting with working blacksmiths and cobblers practicing trades from the 17th and 18th centuries?
During this Family Field Trip, our group does just that at the Skanzen Open-Air Museum located in the countryside outside of Budapest. With more than 350 historic buildings, exhibitions, interactive sites, live historical demonstrations, and playgrounds, families gain insight into Hungarian history dating back hundreds of years. Our scavenger hunt makes the experience more engaging and fun for children!
After the museum, families visit the charming riverside town of Szentendre, a historic village known for its colorful Baroque architecture and long tradition as an artists’ colony. There is ample free time to visit the Marzipan Museum, explore small toy and craft shops, enjoy lunch on your own, have an ice cream in the main square, or play along the Danube riverbank.
Includes: Transportation by train, bus, and van, English explanations and education, entrance cost, snack. 8 hour experience.
Budapest By Water: Danube River & Thermal Baths
$125 per person

During this family field trip, we explore the importance of water in Budapest, learning about the importance of the mighty Danube River itself, the importance of bathing culture, cemented here by the Ottomans and the Romans before them, and of course, spend a lot of time playing.
In the morning, our group meets alongside the Danube River as we learn a bit about the thermal waters that undelie Budapest. We board our boat together for an hour-long tour on the river, seeing many of the islands and famous sites on the banks.
Then we head to Margaret Island, positioned in the middle of the Danube River, and make our way to Palantinus Strand Baths. There, multiple pools await us. Parents might soak in the salt baths inside under soaring ceilings or warm up in a sauna while children play in the wave pool or brave the water slides. There’s something for everyone here!
Includes: Boat ride tickets, two beverages, hot spring entrance cost, English explanations and education. 5 hour experience. Does not include lunch.

Market Visit & Cooking Class

Hungarian cuisine goes way beyond goulash. Your group of worldschooling parents will join an immersive culinary experience that combines a market tour with a hands-on cooking class, guided by a professional chef.
You begin at the 19th century Great Market Hall where you learn about traditional ingredients and shop for your dishes, sampling along the way. Rather than simply sampling local food, you learn why paprika became central to Hungarian cuisine, how recipes have been passed through generations, and how meals bring people together.
Back at the kitchen, you prepare beloved dishes using traditional techniques, while hearing the stories and customs woven into everyday Hungarian cooking. The experience culminates in sharing a meal, connecting culture, conversation, and culinary tradition.
Includes: Transportation from market to kitchen, all ingredients, beverages, guided lesson. 4 hour experience.
Thermal Spa Experience

Our group takes a journey into Budapest’s City Park to visit the iconic Széchenyi Thermal Baths, one of Europe’s largest and most famous bath complexes, learning historical and scientific contextual information not available to a typical tourist.
Upon meeting, your guide prepares you for what to expect and what’s culturally appropriate within this sprawling facility with multiple spaces, pools, and opportunities. As we move through the grand Neo-Baroque buildings, participants learn about the historical importance of bathing culture, the ecology of the natural thermal springs, and the complex hydroengineering undergirding the experience.
Multiple pools, inside and outside, await, with different temperatures and mineral contents to provide rest and promote wellbeing.
Includes: Transportation to the baths, hot spring entrance cost, English explanations and education. 4 hour experience.
