Can you support neurodivergent children or children with special needs?

In some cases, Deliberate Detour can support children who present as neurodivergent or who have special cognitive needs. We strive for inclusion, though we assess fit on a case-by-case basis. During the enrollment process, we ask for transparency. In some cases, we schedule a phone call to learn more about your child prior to making a decision to ensure the success of your child, other children, and hub staff. Our staff are not specifically trained to support children with special needs, so we take an untrained, yet loving approach with these children.

Most hub countries are not equipped to accommodate people with physical disabilities, meaning curbs might not be cut, stairs may not have railings, buses may have steep steps, and more. Participants with physical challenges may have difficulty not only at the hub space but throughout the city. We cannot support participants in wheelchairs. Families are responsible for researching extensively prior to enrollment to ensure that their needs can be met.
