ABOUT DELIBERATE DETOUR
ABOUT US
Traveling families are comprised of seekers. We seek to explore cobblestone lanes, mountain trails, or maze-like markets. We seek deeper connections with our children, heightened adrenaline, enlivened tastebuds, new languages, or peace and quiet. We seek to leave the rat race, take ownership of our children’s education, rediscover joy, and live life on our terms.
We’re a deliberate bunch. We thoughtfully and intentionally create the lives we want to live.
Deliberate Detour enriches the experiences of traveling families by providing much of what’s sought: connection, exploration, culture, joy, and adventure.
And here’s the magical part: As we grow, learn, and fall in love with the world, we also break down stereotypes, broaden our perspectives, accept the value of the ‘other,’ and rejoice in different ways of life.
At Deliberate Detour, our mission is to create a more empathic, peaceful world through immersive, culturally-rich worldschooling hubs in the planet’s most magnificent locations.
OUR TEAM
Deliberate Detour brings together education experts, people local to each hub city, and experienced worldschoolers to plan and execute exceptional programs rich in experiential learning opportunities. OUR VALUES
- We believe that all people have equal value, that their cultures each have fascinating lessons to teach, and that no country comes first.
- We believe that travelers have a duty to behave responsibly, respecting people, places, and the planet, and leaving places better after departure.
- We believe that the world is safe and that people are inherently good.
- We believe that immersive travel is the best vehicle for self-discovery, personal growth, and the development of traits like perseverance, flexibility, tolerance, grit, and open-mindedness.
- We believe that travelers have a duty to recognize when their privilege is manifesting, pledging to mitigate it and to treat others equitably.
WHO WE SERVE
- The Dabblers: Families considering long-term travel may test the waters, executing a shorter adventure before arranging something longer-term. Often these families seek a community to tap into and time with more experienced worldschoolers who can offer advice.
- The Short-timers. These families have a set amount of time to travel: three months, six months, or one year. They plan their itinerary to fit in everything they want to see before heading back to home life and often schedule in a worldschooling hub to anchor their time away.
- The Newcomers: Newer worldschoolers who envision a long (or permanent) amount of time away from home benefit from connecting with more experienced worldschoolers who may answer questions about education, pace of travel, and more.
- The Experienced: More experienced worldschooling families sometimes notice that their children need to slow down or that they long for more enduring peer relationships. Deliberate Detour Hubs may meet these desires.
- The Sapped: A family at any stage may feel sapped or drained! Families who need someone else to do the planning for a change… parents who need time apart from your children, we got you.
